ప్రకృతి సృష్టిలో కొన్ని వింతలు, విశేషాలు మనల్ని ఎంతగానో ఆశ్చర్యపరుస్తాయి. అలాంటి ఓ అద్భుతమే ఇప్పుడు Mahabubabad జిల్లాలో అందరినీ ఆకట్టుకుంటోంది. కేసముద్రం మండల కేంద్రంలోని ఓ ఇంటి ఆవరణలో వికసించిన అరుదైన ‘మే పుష్పం’ ప్రస్తుతం స్థానికంగా హాట్టాపిక్గా మారింది. ఏడాదికి కేవలం ఒక్కసారి మాత్రమే పూసే ఈ పువ్వును చూసేందుకు ప్రకృతి ప్రేమికులు ఆసక్తి చూపుతున్నారు.
శాస్త్రీయంగా Scadoxus multiflorus అని పిలిచే ఈ మొక్కను సాధారణంగా ‘బ్లడ్ లిల్లీ’ అని అంటారు. ఆఫ్రికా ఖండానికి చెందిన ఈ అరుదైన జాతి మొక్క మన వాతావరణ పరిస్థితుల్లోనూ అద్భుతంగా పెరుగుతోంది. తీవ్రమైన ఎండలు ఉండే ఏప్రిల్, మే నెలల్లో మాత్రమే ఇది వికసిస్తుండటంతో దీనికి ‘మే పుష్పం’ అనే పేరు వచ్చింది.
ఈ మొక్కకు ఓ ప్రత్యేకమైన లక్షణం ఉంది. సాధారణంగా మొక్కలకు ముందుగా ఆకులు వచ్చాక పువ్వులు పూస్తాయి. కానీ ఈ బ్లడ్ లిల్లీకి మాత్రం ఆకులు రాకముందే భూమిలో ఉన్న దుంప నుంచి నేరుగా కాడలు పైకి వస్తాయి. ఆ కాడల చివర వందలాది చిన్న చిన్న పువ్వులు గుత్తులుగా వికసించి గుండ్రని ఫుట్బాల్ ఆకారంలో కనిపిస్తాయి. ముదురు ఎరుపు, గులాబీ రంగుల్లో మెరిసే ఈ పుష్పాలు చూసిన వారిని మంత్రముగ్ధులను చేస్తున్నాయి.
వేసవిలోనే ఎందుకు పూస్తుంది?
బ్లడ్ లిల్లీ మొక్క శీతాకాలం మొత్తం భూమి లోపల దుంప రూపంలోనే నిద్రావస్థలో ఉంటుంది. వేసవి వేడి ప్రారంభమయ్యాక మేల్కొని కేవలం మే నెలలో మాత్రమే పుష్పిస్తుంది. పువ్వులు రాలిపోయిన తర్వాత మొక్కకు ఆకులు రావడం ప్రారంభమవుతుంది.
ఏడాది పొడవునా కనిపించని ఈ అందమైన పుష్పం కేవలం కొన్ని రోజులే కనువిందు చేయడంతో కేసముద్రంలోని ఆ ఇంటి వద్ద స్థానికులు క్యూ కడుతున్నారు. ప్రస్తుతం ఈ అరుదైన బ్లడ్ లిల్లీ ఫోటోలు, వీడియోలు సోషల్ మీడియాలో వైరల్గా మారాయి.
Nature always surprises us with its rare wonders, and one such beautiful attraction is now mesmerizing people in Mahabubabad district. A rare ‘May Flower’ has bloomed in the courtyard of a house in Kesamudram mandal, drawing the attention of locals and nature enthusiasts alike.
This unique flower blooms only once a year, making it a special attraction during the summer season. Scientifically known as Scadoxus multiflorus, the plant is commonly called the “Blood Lily.” Though native to Africa, this rare species adapts beautifully to Indian climatic conditions as well.
The flower blooms mainly during the scorching months of April and May, which is why it is popularly called the “May Flower.” What makes this plant even more fascinating is its unusual flowering pattern. Unlike most plants that produce leaves before flowering, the Blood Lily sends up stalks directly from its underground bulb before any leaves appear.
At the tip of each stalk, hundreds of tiny flowers bloom together in a perfect spherical cluster, resembling a football-shaped floral ball. The deep pink and blood-red colored blossoms create a spectacular visual treat for nature lovers.
Why Does It Bloom Only in Summer?
The Blood Lily remains dormant underground in bulb form throughout the winter season. As summer heat increases, the bulb awakens and blooms only during May. After the flower fades away, leaves begin to grow from the plant.
Since this breathtaking beauty appears only for a few days each year, people in Kesamudram are eagerly visiting the house to witness the rare bloom. Photos and videos of the extraordinary Blood Lily are now going viral across social media platforms.
